can anyone tell me if you can ride a 125 scooter with a full driving license?

If there was one scooter that has gotten molten lava hot over the past two years, it's been the Vespa. And yes, these are kick-ass little scooters -- not just the vintage models, but also the vintage Vespa inspired new models. But the problem is that they're pricey. Luckily a good secondary market has formed, so now it's possible to find an inexpensive vespa for sale with just a small amount of digging. View our partner outlet store to see what I mean.

I have had since my driving licence since 1988 or do I have to take some sort of scooter driving test?

Study the motorcycle handbook on the DMV website for your state to prepare for the motorcycle written test.

Inquire where the skills test course is and practice before your appointment . . example:

If you desire to purchase some cones, soccer field cones at Wal-Mart are cheap.

Don't forget to budget for proper riding gear . . this is why.

If your scooter can go over 35 miles an hour, you will need a motorcycle endorsement. Call your local DMV to find out about the test you will need to take.

Any scooter over 50cc you need a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license. However, here in NC at least, you can get a motorcycle permit that's good for 18 months and renewable once (I think). That's how I got started. A few months later I took the written test, then the riding test. I failed the latter because I couldn't follow what they were telling me to do around the cones. Later I took a motorcycle safety course (a long weekend) and it was worth every penny. Not only did it pick up handling skills I'll uses forever, passing the course enables you to skip the riding test at the DMV and get your endorsement. Also usually good for an insurance discount. I ride a 150 cc scoot.
