Petrol-Saving Ideas for Motor Scooter Riders

We've noticed a serious uptick in demand for the Kymco scooters line recently. They are relatively well made, they have a decent selection, and they are favorably priced for the scooter you get. Considering the recent popularity, we'll be posting more features on Kymco scooters very soon.

You know by now that gas scooters get terrific mileage and now you'd like to improve on that? Well read on for some great ideas for improving your scooter's gas mileage. No more bleeding money at the pump!

1) Watch your acceleration, Earnhardt!

Just like a car, how you ride your scooter will have a major impact on how many kilometers you are able to obtain from your scooter per litre. Out of all of the petrol-saving ideas, the use of your throttle has the greatest effect on your overall fuel consumption. The key is to increase your speed slowly, instead of trying to chirp the tires from a dead stop.

2) Make sure your tires are properly inflated

Not only is riding on improperly inflated tires unsafe, it is bad on mileage. Check your tires' PSI (pounds per square inch), and inflate or deflate them accordingly. Remember that your tire pressure will climb in the hotter months and decline in cooler months.

3) Keep your scooter tuned up

Quite a few people think of a motors scooter as a set it and forget it thing. They buy it, ride it, and rarely think of maintaining it. But just like a car, your scooter needs some TLC to run properly and continue getting high mileage. Keep your scooter in good operating condition, and you'll be rewarded with a long scooter life and exceptional gas mileage.

4) Change your oil more often than you think you should

You change your oil in your car every 3,000 to 6,000 miles, I'd bet. But it can take some serious riding for your scooter to see that kind of use, especially if you use yours primarily for neighborhood riding. Regardless of mileage, you should try to change your oil before every riding season.

For example, if your riding season is in the summer months, from May through September, but you usually only put 400 miles on your motors scooter over those months, you should still change your oil every May.

So how many miles per gallon can you expect to get out of your scooter with these tips? The answer varies dramatically depending on the type and size of your motors scooter, but you are looking at significant savings.

Remember that some smaller scooters only have a useful life of 25,000 or so miles, and these ideas will also make a difference in the lifespan of your scooter.
