Be sure to connect Negfitive (-) to Negitive, and Positive (+) to Posttive.
Clean up the cable lug’s with a wire brush just lightly to engsure the best connection. You can buy terminal protector spray to apply to the battry to ensure longer battery life span.
To determin if a battery needs to be charged buy a hydrometer (http://www.stevenson-reeves.co.uk/howto.htm)

It would be worth getting the fork seal & MOT done - it would be worth about £880 in good condition, as it is you’d be lucky to get £500 for it.
(ps to previous answer - you can’t ride a 125 at 16)

In most states, you will need a motorcycle license for a 125cc scooter.

Any scooter over 50cc you need a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license. However, here in NC at least, you can get a motorcycle permit that's good for 18 months and renewable once (I think). That's how I got started. A few months later I took the written test, then the riding test. I failed the latter because I couldn't follow what they were telling me to do around the cones. Later I took a motorcycle safety course (a long weekend) and it was worth every penny. Not only did it pick up handling skills I'll uses forever, passing the course enables you to skip the riding test at the DMV and get your endorsement. Also usually good for an insurance discount. I ride a 150 cc scoot.
